Manchester City is top of the first Associated Press Global Football 10 of the new season and Pedro Rodriguez is the leading player after scoring on his Chelsea debut.
Manuel Pellegrini’s City led the team voting after a 2-0 victory over Everton maintained a perfect start to the Premier League season.
City is also yet to concede a goal in the three games played so far.
“City not only made it nine consecutive Premier League wins (including last season) but doing that at Everton added more worth to it as Pellegrini showed they are really out to regain the title,” Umaid Wasim of DAWN.com in Pakistan said. “They won at Goodison Park, a venue (where) they’ve struggled in the past.”
Borussia Dortmund is runner-up after thrashing Ingolstadt 4-0 in the Bundesliga.
Udinese is third for winning 1-0 at defending champion Juventus in the opening weekend of the Serie A in Italy.
Marseille polled fourth for routing Troyes 6-0 in the French league, while Bayern Munich took fifth after beating Hoffenheim 2-1 with a goal in the final minute from Robert Lewandowski.
Sporting Gijon, Barcelona, Chelsea, Fiorentina and Paris Saint-Germain round out the top 10 teams.
Pedro is the player of the week after marking his arrival from Barcelona by inspiring Chelsea to its first league triumph of the season, a 3-2 win at West Bromwich Albion.
“A £21m move to Chelsea and both a goal and an assist in the first-half of his debut,” Julian Bennetts of Hayters news agency in England said. “That was quite some week for Pedro, who topped it off by heading back to Barcelona to say goodbye to his former teammates.”
Callum Wilson, of Premier League newcomer Bournemouth, is second for a hat trick in a 4-3 win at West Ham, which also saw his team pick up its first three points of the season.
table-sports0826“Welcome to the Premier League, Callum Wilson,” Tom Timmermann of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch said. “Hat tricks aren’t that easy to come by.”
Luis Suarez is third after scoring the only goal in the second half of Barcelona’s 1-0 win at Athletic Bilbao.
Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech is fourth, after two stunning first-half saves in his side’s encounter with Liverpool on Monday, which ended 0-0.
David Silva is a place behind, after impressing as City beat Everton.
Lewandowski, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Michy Batshuayi, Antonio Kolorov and Blaise Matuidi complete the top 10 players of the week. AP
