Bats Rugby season up and running in Hong Kong

The first Hong Kong mini-Rugby festival took place at King’s Park earlier this month hosted by the USRC Tigers. The Macau Bats entered five teams across the age groups, fielding two teams at the same age group for the first time.

The U7s got the show under way and the Bats A team went down 1-3 against Hong Kong Eastern, then drew a lively game against TaiPo (3-3) then narrowly lost to Sandy Bay (3-5) and Discovery Bay Pirates (3-4).  Meanwhile the Bats B team had a similar record against South China Athletic (2-4), Hong Kong Football Club (1-3), USRC Tigers (2-3) and Tsuen Wan (3-4).  All high scoring games but highlighting the need to tighten the defensive game.

The U8s had a very successful set of matches, recording wins over TaiPo (3-0); Flying Kukris (2-0); Hong Kong Football Club (2-1) and Aberdeen (3-1).

Meanwhile the U9s opened their account for the season with 3 wins and a draw. The match against Tai Hang Tung finished 4-4 , followed by wins over Hong Kong Eastern (9-2), Discovery Bay Pirates (5-1) and USRC Tigers (6-0), giving optimism for the season ahead.

The U11s also had an impressive set of games, with four wins against Discovery Bay Pirates (3-0); Tsuen Wan/ South China; Flying Kukris and Sai Kung Stingrays.

A very good festival debut for the Club with hopefully brighter things to come. Donald Shaw, Hong Kong
