Breast cancer remains leading cause of cancer among local women

Breast cancer continues to be the most common cancer among women in Macau, with 291 new cases (80.4 per 100,000 women) and 55 deaths (15.2 per 100,000) recorded in 2023, according to the Health Bureau’s (SSM) Cancer Registration System.

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Conde de São Januário Hospital (CHCSJ) recently hosted a lecture titled “Stay Healthy, Share the Love,” attended by around 30 patients and family members.

The event focused on breast cancer prevention, therapy, and the importance of regular screenings, aligning with the goals of “early detection, early diagnosis, and early treatment.”

The Cancer Patient Resource Center (CRDO) of the SSM continues to provide comprehensive support to patients and their families. In 2024, CRDO assisted more than 6,900 individuals through outpatient nursing and rehabilitation services, home counseling, and post-surgery exercise programs.

Women aged 18 and older are advised to take part in the “Breast Cancer Screening Program” and prioritize their health through routine check-ups and preventive measures. LV
