Macau swimmer and record holder Chao Man Hou has won two gold medals, as well as breaking multiple records, in the National Student Games. Chao’s first medal in the games came from the men’s 100-meter breaststroke. He was also able to break the Macau record in this event, achieving a time of 1.02.91. Later, he pocketed another gold medal from the men’s 200-meter breaststroke. His time of 2.15.09 has broken the Games’ record, and is also six seconds faster than the Macau record. Chao Man Hou said that he did not expect these results. The swimmer revealed that his next goal is to maintain his current form and break more records in the Asian Games, which will take place in Korea next month. His coach said that Chao Man Hou is a gifted swimmer and is not surprised by her student’s achievement.
Thailand Sawasdee performs woodwind quintet in town
Invited to perform at the 2014 Macau Band Fair, the Sawasdee Woodwind Quintet from Thailand will be on stage today to perform pieces originating from Thailand and France at the D. Pedro V Theatre. Founded in 2008, Sawasdee is a small chamber music ensemble consisting of piano, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and French horn. The ensemble is formed by a new generation of classical musicians. In March 2010, Sawasdee was awarded the semi-finalist’s prize from the TEREM Crossover Competition in St. Petersburg, Russia. Sawasdee Piano and Woodwind Quintet is one of the acts to perform at the 25th Macau Band Fair, organized by the Macau Band Directors Association. The fair is held from June 30 to August 21 at the Macau Cultural Centre, the D. Pedro V Theatre, Colegio de Santa Rosa de Lima English Secondary Chapel, and Taipa Carmo Fair.
