CE meets Minister Li to discuss science park and economic growth initiatives

The Chief Executive, Sam Hou Fai, met with China’s Minister of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), Li Lecheng, yesterday to discuss advancing Macau’s industrialization and promoting economic diversification through scientific and technological innovation.

The meeting, held in Beijing, focused on supporting Macau’s integration into national development strategies.

According to the statement released by the Government Information Bureau (GCS), the CE expressed gratitude for the ministry’s ongoing support and reiterated Macau’s commitment to high-quality development under the ‘One country, two systems’ framework, as highlighted by President Xi Jinping during his visit last year.

A key topic discussed at the meeting was the Macau Science and Technology Research Industrial Park.

At the meeting, Sam highlighted the SAR government’s plan to strengthen cooperation with the MIIT in areas such as strategic planning, industrial layout, and the allocation of scientific and technological talent.

The CE described the industrial park as a flagship project, poised to enhance Macau’s innovation ecosystem and drive economic diversification.

The park aims to foster the commercialization of research outcomes as Macau transitions toward a more diverse, technology-driven economy, according to prior government statements.

Accompanying the CE at yesterday’s meeting were Secretary for Economy and Finance Anton Tai and other senior officials, while Minister Li was joined by directors from his ministry.

The CE’s meeting with Minister Li followed his participation in Wednesday’s symposium commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

The event drew 340 participants, including patriotic representatives from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, as well as overseas Chinese.
