City of Dreams hosts Laurent Perbos’ dual exhibition ahead of 15th National Games

City of Dreams Macau has launched French contemporary artist Laurent Perbos’s dual exhibition, featuring “Artletics” and “Beauty and Gesture,” as part of the cultural celebrations for the upcoming 15th National Games of China.

The exhibitions will run until January 4 of next year, offering free public access to artistic interpretations of athletic culture.

During his speech, chairman and CEO of Melco Resorts & Entertainment Lawrence Ho noted, “Ahead of the 15th National Games in November, City of Dreams is honoured to present this dual exhibition by Laurent Perbos, which not only redefines the relationship between art and sports but also deepens Macau’s multicultural expression.”

“Art knows no borders. It is a universal language that connects us beyond cultures, distances, and languages. Here in Macau, I am deeply honoured to witness the encounter between my works and your gaze, between a French imagination and a Chinese reality,” Perbos echoed.

Renowned athletes including Chak Lam Coleman Wong, Jie Zheng, Yaping Deng, Yining Zhang, Yueru Li, and Yue Sun were also in attendance during the ceremony.

The “Artletics” exhibition, located on Level 1 next to LAN Bar, spans three sections: Dream Court, Body Myth, and Ping-Pong Garden, and runs until early next year, transforming sporting scenes into dynamic artistic spaces.

Perbos draws from classical art and sporting culture to create immersive environments where visitors encounter surprising fusions of art and athletics while walking through and interacting with the installations.

Simultaneously, “Beauty and Gesture” presents six colorful reinterpretations of the iconic Venus de Milo sculpture, each representing a different Olympic sport, and is displayed at the Cotai Strip entrance of City of Dreams.

Originally created during the 2024 Paris Olympics and first displayed at the Palais Bourbon, the installation will remain at the Cotai Strip Entrance through November 26.

The work blends ancient Greek beauty with modern athletic dynamism, creating a visual dialogue between classical art and contemporary sports culture.

Both exhibitions use the language of art to echo the spirit of the 15th National Games in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, infusing Macau’s urban spaces with cultural vitality through the interplay of artistic expression and athletic celebration.
