Corporate Bits | Galaxy announces MOP75 million donation for long-term fight against Covid-19

Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) has announced an additional donation of MOP75 million to help support the development of long-term preventive measures against Covid-19 in mainland China and Macau.

The donation, made under the coordination of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR, will contribute toward providing care for healthcare workers on the mainland, helping with public health promotion and supporting medical and scientific research related to the epidemic.

It comes as mainland China is gradually bringing the virus under control. In recent months, scientists and medical specialists have continued to work tirelessly on follow-up research in hopes of containing the virus.

In a statement issued yesterday, GEG conveyed its deepest appreciation for the professionalism and strong sense of responsibility of frontline healthcare workers in various parts of mainland China.

“As a Chinese enterprise, GEG endeavors to support our country in its related efforts against the epidemic,” said Lui Che-woo, Chairman of GEG, according to the statement.

“With the virus being effectively controlled in Mainland China by its implementation of various prevention measures, their successful experience serves as a valuable lesson for other countries battling with COVID-19. We hope to further contribute to this fight against the epidemic by subsidizing related institutions and specialists in Mainland China to carry out the relevant scientific and medical research.”

To date, GEG has donated over MOP100 million to support the related efforts and subscribed HKD100 million in the SMEs themed COVID-19 Impact Alleviation Social Bonds issued by the Bank of China (Macau Branch). Meanwhile, one million masks were also donated to the Macau SAR, Zhuhai City and Hengqin New Area governments.
