Corporate Bits | MGM introduces first ‘Junior Lion Dance Training Program’

02 MGM is partnering with Hong Wai Sports and Recreations Association of Macau to kick-off the hotel’s first-ever “Junior Lion Dance Training Program” from July 6 to August 31. This Program, in addition to the “MGM International Lion Dance Championship – Macau Invitational 2015” and “MGM International Lion Dance Championship – Beijing Invitational 2015”, celebrates the fifth anniversary of the “MGM International Lion Dance Championship”. Its aim is to promote the essence of Chinese culture and to garner interest in this traditional sport among local youths. Participants will learn about the history of Lion Dance and the importance of practicing and acquiring basic skills in this traditional sport.
The participants will be trained by Mr. Mak Chi Leong, a top and well respected Dragon and Lion Dance coach, who is also the Chairman of Macau Hong Wai Sports and Recreations Association and Head Coach of the Dragon and Lion Dances Department. He possesses over 10 years of experience in such training and has organized numerous dragon and lion dance troupes to compete in local and international competitions with great success.
The “Junior Lion Dance Training Program” welcomes children between 6 and 10 years old during the summer break. The training will take place at the MGM Art Space, and features a twice-a-week schedule between July 6 and August 31, where classes will be divided into three phases over an eight-week period. Upon completion of all the full training, there will be a graduation ceremony and graduates will have a chance to perform at this year’s “MGM International Lion Dance Championship – Macau Invitational 2015” in November.

City of Dreams the only Macau recipient of inaugural food traceability best practice award

ever “Quality Food Traceability Scheme” in Hong Kong last Thursday, making it the only company from Macau to have its food traceability practices recognized by the Hong Kong chapter of GS1, a non-profit global supply chain standards organization headquartered in Brussels, Belgium. This award recognizes the success of City of Dreams’ ongoing pursuit of high-level food safety.
The aim of the “Quality Food Traceability Scheme” is to recognize Hong Kong and Macau-based enterprises which demonstrate excellence in the tracking and tracing of the sources and provenance of all food products (including sources of feed, other ingredients, and packaging), through all stages of production, processing and distribution. The rigorous assessment criteria have been developed by a group of industry practitioners, with reference to ISO 22005, HACCP (ISO 22000:2005), and BRC (British Retail Consortium) Global Standard, etc.
Mr. Kristoffer Luczak, Senior Vice President of Food and Beverage, Melco Crown Entertainment Limited, received the Gold Enterprise Winner award as representative of the company in an award presentation ceremony at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. He said, “We are honored to be the only winner from Macau under this important food traceability scheme. This award is the result of collaborative teamwork from all of our staff, who work tirelessly to deliver the highest quality dining experience to our guests, and signifies our achievement in implementing internationally-recognized food management and traceability systems at City of Dreams. We hope we can set an example for the local hospitality industry and that this scheme will encourage them to join us in pursuing excellence in food safety practices.”
