Forum focuses on innovative solutions to global challenges

The “First Clare Hall, University of Cambridge – University of Macau Forum 2025” took place earlier this week at the University of Macau (UM), co-hosted by UM and Clare Hall of the University of Cambridge.

The forum’s theme, “Interdisciplinary Approaches to Advancing Sustainable Development: Innovative Solutions to Global Challenges,” emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration to address pressing global issues.

The event marked a milestone in the partnership between UM and Clare Hall, with both institutions renewing their cooperation agreement for the Cambridge Clare Hall Visiting Fellowship Programme.

This programme, established in 2006, aims to promote academic exchange and interdisciplinary collaboration in the fields of humanities, social sciences, and technology.

Rector Yonghua Song of UM highlighted the success of the programme, which has allowed 23 UM scholars to engage in academic exchanges at Cambridge, and emphasized the need for technological innovation and interdisciplinary approaches to tackle challenges such as climate change and resource scarcity.

Alan Short, president of Clare Hall, noted that the forum, as the first interdisciplinary event jointly hosted by both universities, underscored the importance of integrating diverse perspectives to address global issues.

He also pointed to the focus of future collaborations on sustainable development and artificial intelligence.

The forum featured two plenary sessions and three parallel sessions.

The forum attracted over 20 scholars from UM, Cambridge, and Chongqing University, along with UM students and faculty, stimulating dynamic discussions on sustainable development and innovative solutions. Staff Reporter
