Forum focuses on ‘judicial system impartiality’

The president of the Court of Final Appeal, Sam Hou Fai, has said that China’s law reform has invariably captured the attention of Macau, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Hence, the third Cross-Strait High Level Forum on the legal affairs of Macau, Hong Kong and Taiwan, which is being held here for the first time today, is committed to “ensuring the judicial system’s impartiality.”
At the forum’s opening ceremony yesterday, Mr Sam recalled that the three regions will be discussing how to further cooperation on legal affairs, while debating topics ranging from human resources and judicial organization, to courts’ budgetary matters or the current legal affairs situation of each region.
Furthermore, the forum will enable the three jurisdictions to provide further details on the operations of their particular judicial systems.
Mr Sam stressed in his speech that the three regions will be able to learn from each other, aiming to overcome hurdles and fix similar system issues, while working toward “the development of the civilization of Chinese Rule of Law.”
The   forum    ends   today    with    the  closing
ceremony being held at 11.30 a.m. at the MGM.
