Gov’t approves MOP1.9 billion public works package, LRT East Line takes largest share

The government has approved more than MOP1.9 billion (about USD235 million) in multi-year public works commitments, with the largest allocation directed toward expanding the city’s Light Rapid Transit (LRT) network.
The centerpiece of the spending plan is the design and construction of a tunnel for the East Line extension of the LRT system, with a budget of MOP1.74 billion (about $211 million).
According to the MSAR government’s Official Gazette (BO), the project has been awarded to a consortium comprising China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (Macau) Ltd., Nam Kwong Real Estate Co., Ltd., and the Macau representative office of China Railway 16th Bureau Group.
The tunnel will link ES1 Station to Citizens Sports Park Station and will be built using a tunnel boring machine (TBM).
Timeline and budget structure
According to the multi-year budget approved by the Chief Executive, payments for the LRT project will be staggered through 2030. The largest disbursement is scheduled for 2027, amounting to MOP662.7 million (about $82 million).
Beyond the LRT expansion, authorities have also approved the construction of a bridge connecting Zone A of the New Urban Reclamation Area to the Macau Peninsula. The contract, valued at MOP92 million (about $11.4 million), has been awarded to the Top Builders International–China Road and Bridge consortium, with execution planned for 2026 and 2027.
Two underground pedestrian walkways in Zone A have also been approved, each costing approximately MOP40 million (about $5 million).
