New bus stop at Av. Dr. Sun Yat-Sen to serve South Shore Waterfront Green Promenade

A new bus stop has been installed on Avenida Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, aiming to improve public transportation access to the new sports and leisure areas surrounding the Governador Nobre de Carvalho Bridge.
According to the Transport Bureau (DSAT), the new bus stop serving the South Shore Waterfront Green Promenade will begin operations on the morning of June 3 (Wednesday) and will be served by bus routes 60 and 65.
Named “Av. Dr. Sun Yat-Sen/ Rua da Torre de Macau,” the new stop is located in the direction of Barra.
Starting with the first bus on June 3, routes 60 and 65 (toward Barra) will begin stopping at this new stop, DSAT said, adding that passengers heading to the South Shore Waterfront Green Promenade may alight at this stop and, by walking along the sidewalk of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Avenue, access facilities such as the open field in the area.
DSAT also added that, if passengers are not on routes 60 or 65, they may alternatively continue to use the stops serving “Torre de Macau” or “Torre / Túnel Rodoviário” and then walk to the South Shore Waterfront Green Promenade.
The installation of this new bus stop comes seven months after the promenade facilities opened to the public in November last year.
Over the past year, members of the public have called for better accessibility to these new leisure and sports facilities, which are considered disconnected from the city for pedestrians and public bus users, making them more accessible to those traveling by private transport.
Also note that the existing alternative mentioned by DSAT – using bus routes that stop at Macau Tower – requires a walk of around 15 minutes (about 1 km) to reach the facilities.
The issue remains unresolved for those on the opposite side of Av. Dr. Sun Yat-Sen. There is no reasonable alternative for crossing the road to reach the new leisure area, so pedestrians are forced either to head west toward Macau Tower and cross at the roundabout (a 15-minute, 1 km walk), or head east toward NAPE and cross at the intersection between Av. Dr. Sun Yat-Sen and Av. de 24 de Junho (after MGM Macau), a route that takes over 30 minutes and more than 2 km of walking.
