Int’l music festival continues with lineup of 12 programs, 14 outreach activities

The 37th Macao International Music Festival (MIMF), running until November 8 under the theme “Vocal Waves,” continues to present its lineup of 12 programs and 14 outreach activities this week.

This week’s programming includes a performance by baritone Thomas Hampson on October 16 at the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium.

He will perform lieder by Gustav Mahler, accompanied by pianist Wolfgang Rieger.

The program will feature selections from Des Knaben Wunderhorn and Lieder und Gesänge aus der Jugendzeit, showcasing Mahler’s distinctive approach to the song cycle form.

Yesterday, audiences attended a performance by The English Concert at St. Joseph the Worker Church, where the ensemble presented works by Handel.

The Baroque specialist group, recognized for its historically informed performance practice, offered a program of orchestral works and operatic excerpts.

The concert was preceded by a talk from the ensemble’s artistic directors, who provided background on the Baroque repertoire and performance style.

Recent festival highlights included Portuguese Fado singer Cuca Roseta’s collaboration with the Macao Chinese Orchestra on October 11.

The performance at the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium blended traditional Portuguese Fado with Chinese instrumentation, creating a unique cross-cultural dialogue between the two traditions.

Today, while no main-stage concerts are scheduled, the festival continues with ongoing activities and preparations for upcoming events.

Residents and tourists can explore festival exhibitions and installations at several cultural venues throughout the city.

The festival’s outreach program continues to offer free performances in public spaces around Macau, with recent presentations including Hong Kong’s Yat Po Singers performing their a cappella theater production “This Victoria Has No Secrets” near Flower City Park and in Areia Preta Urban Park.

Tickets for remaining festival events are available through the Enjoy Macao Ticketing platform, and more information can be found on the official MIMF website and social media channels. Ricaela Diputado
