LRT company reports 97% local workforce, aims to hire more ahead of expansion

The Light Rapid Transit (LRT) Company has said it aims to recruit and train more local workers, in preparation for upcoming expansion projects of the LRT network, particularly the entry into operation of the East Line.

According to a company statement, “the company has adopted a development strategy centered on talent and professional excellence, continuously enhancing the training system for local staff and refining career advancement mechanisms, so that more Macau residents can not only find a career path with the LRT but also ensure, through professionalism, the safety of every LRT journey.”

In the same statement, the company also noted that at the end of last year, the total number of LRT Company employees exceeded 900, and local residents accounted for more than 97% of the workforce.

The company noted that such a high rate of local employees “fully demonstrates that our company has achieved phased results in promoting local employment and training technical professionals, while also laying a solid foundation for the sustainable development of Macau’s rail transport sector.”

Regarding new recruits, the company is targeting five core areas, including daily operations, equipment maintenance, safety management, customer service, and emergency response.

The company also said it has established tiered, category-based training courses for employees in different positions and is strengthening regional cooperation to send staff members for training in neighboring regions, particularly in specialized courses organized by experienced operations and maintenance entities.

The company explained that the goal of such training is to strengthen practical operations and emergency response capabilities while also assisting employees in obtaining national-level professional certifications, such as high-voltage electrician, fusion welding, and thermal cutting certifications.
