The Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin and the Macao Special Administrative Region have jointly launched a “Hospital-to-Hospital” cross-border transfer service, marking a step in integrated healthcare development between the two regions.
A signing ceremony for the administrative cooperation memorandum (MOU) and an awarding event for designated hospitals were held yesterday in Hengqin.
The agreement was signed by Nie Xinping, deputy director of the zone’s executive committee, and Leong Man-cheong, commissioner general of the Unitary Police Service, representing the two sides, as cited in a China Daily Report.
The new arrangement establishes a direct hospital-linkage model, enabling faster, safer, and more efficient emergency medical transfers for residents between Hengqin and Macau.
Under the MOU, patients assessed by designated hospitals on either side can be transferred through a secure, streamlined process, improving the overall efficiency of medical care.
Nie Xinping said the agreement will enhance healthcare services on both sides and safeguard residents’ health. Leong Man-cheong described the MOU as an important milestone in Hengqin-Macau integration.
The first designated hospitals for the service were also announced.
Conde de S. Januário Hospital in Macau and Hengqin Hospital of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University will serve as the initial institutions to implement point-to-point cross-border transfers, providing a model for future expansion of integrated medical services.
