The Macau Dragon Boat team won four awards in the races in Hong Kong over the weekend, the China-Macau Dragon Boat Association has announced in a statement.
The Hong Kong races were held on Jun. 24 and 25 off the coast from the city’s Tsim Sha Tsui District. Athletes from China, Australia, Thailand, the Philippines, Poland, Japan, Dubai, among other places, gathered in Hong Kong to compete in various championships. The Hong Kong races are 500 meters in length.
The Macau team deployed 12 female and 21 male athletes to compete across four championships.
In the International Mixed Championship, the Macau team topped the list with a time of 1:57.355.
Despite having a faster time at 1:52.968 in the Greater Bay Area Championship, the Macau team could only secure second place, behind the Zhuhai Jiujiang team.
In the Hong Kong-Macao Trophy, the Macau team managed to win the third place with a time at 1:51.570. In the International Open Championship, the team placed fourth at 1:51.445.
The association highlighted that this was the first excursion of the team after resumption of normal travel. The races are considered an opportunity to prepare for the Thai World Championship in August and the Asian Games in October. AL
