Macau revokes six publications, registers six new titles

The Government Information Bureau (GCS) revoked the registration of six publications in 2025 under Article 15 of the Press Law and related regulations, which mandate automatic cancellation for prolonged non-publication. Among them was the monthly magazine All About Macau, which ceased operations after facing “increased pressure and risks.”

With their registrations revoked, the publications no longer have a legal basis to operate.

The full list includes Skyscape Macau (weekly magazine), International Trade Leader (weekly), Macau Young Journal (monthly), All About Macau (monthly), Asian Heart Journal (semi-annual), and Play Zhu Ao (annual).

As reported by the Times, All About Macau announced in October 2025 that it faced “increasing pressure and risks,” prompting the closure of its print edition after issue 150. The outlet then suspended its website and social media accounts on Dec. 20, 2025.

Despite these developments, the GCS website states, “Macau enjoys freedom of the press, freedom of speech, and freedom of publishing. Despite being relatively small, Macao has a well-developed media industry.”

The site adds that the government “strives to enhance the transparency of its administration and facilitate communication and dialogue with the media,” while laws “protect the rights of journalists to gather and receive news and information, and to report it, ensuring their journalistic independence.”

At the time of publication, the GCS website lists 13 Chinese dailies, three Portuguese dailies, two English dailies, various weeklies, and electronic media including TDM television and radio.

GCS states that as of 2025, 109 periodicals held valid registration, with six new ones – published weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually – registered that year, replacing the six periodicals that were cancelled.
