Morpheus opens today with ‘ultra-luxury hospitality’ concept

Morpheus, the latest addition to Macau’s resort panorama opens today. The hotel was designed by late Pritzker Architecture Prize winner Dame Zaha Hadid and heralds Phase 3 in the development of Melco Resorts & Entertainment’s City of Dreams (COD).

From the outside, the hotel impresses with its avant-garde free-form and exoskeleton-bound design. During yesterday’s media visit, journalists saw the interior of the building, including the common areas, dining venues, hotel rooms and duplex villas.

Morpheus is also said to be the first hotel brand wholly developed and created by Melco to set “a new benchmark for ultra- luxury hospitality in Macau.”

In the dining area, a whole floor is dedicated to Monégasque chef, Alain Ducasse, with two restaurants that make up The World of Ducasse. The new property also features other gastronomic highlights such as The Universe of Pierre Hermé and the unusual Chinese fine dining restaurant Yi, which is located in the Sky Bridge at the center of the hotel. Yi serves regional Chinese dishes in omakase-style. This means the restaurant will not have a fixed menu, but an array of choices depending on the season and on the best ingredients available.

The sky pool is located all the way at the top of the building, 130 meters above ground with a 360 degree view of Cotai and the surrounding areas.

There is a 12,000-square foot retail area in the lobby featuring mostly designer brands and pop-up shops, which now connect to the COD retail galleries.

Along with the eye-popping design, Morpheus also houses an art collection that features Charles Pétillon’s six-meter-high fabric bubble installation ‘200 Litofairhour’, ‘Echoes of the Infinity’, a corridor of Japanese-style floral panels by Japanese artist Shinji Ohmaki, and KAWS’ ‘Good Intentions,’ a large sculpture in the Contemporary Visual Art Gallery on the 23rd floor.
