The construction of a new border access to the Campus of the University of Macau (UM) in Hengqin was one of the major topics of discussion during the meeting of the Specialized Group for Cooperation between the Macau and Hengqin Border Posts.
The meeting, held last week, was attended by representatives from the Secretariat for Security of Macau and the Executive Committee of the Cooperation Zone.
According to a statement from the Office of the Secretary for Security, Chan Tsz King, the parties reached a consensus on several key issues, namely the construction of the “annex access to the Hengqin Border Post at UM,” the innovation of inspection and control models, and the implementation of a joint response mechanism for emergencies at the Hengqin Border Post.
The parties also agreed to establish a dedicated working group to develop access adjacent to the Hengqin Border Crossing at the University of Macau, which will jointly advance the implementation of various tasks, including the construction of main structures and their computerization systems, as well as the study of an innovative border-crossing model.
At the meeting, discussions also covered the feasibility of introducing intelligent border-crossing technology in vehicle lanes at the Hengqin Border Crossing, as well as the upgrading of the “one-stop” border inspection platform between Guangdong and Macau. The first phase of the system is expected to be introduced later this week.
