NPC | CPPCC: Ho thinks China’s gov’t report lays out clear thoughts

A plenary meeting of deputies from Macau yesterday in Beijing

The president of the Legislative Assembly (AL), Ho Iat Sang, said that China’s latest government work report lays out China’s clear development plan.

While attending the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference in Beijing, Ho praised the Central Government’s plan, expressing the view that China will undergo significant changes over the next five years.

Regarding the omission of the statements, “Macau people governing Macau” and “Hong Kong people governing Hong Kong” from the work report of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Ho expressed a belief that it is not always necessary to repeat these phrases in China’s work report, according to Macao Daily News.

In Ho’s opinion, the CPPCC report clearly indicated China’s support for the two SAR governments and the two chief executives’ administrations.

As well as Ho, other CPPCC Macau members raised their proposals during the CPPCC in Beijing.

Chan Meng Kam suggested that China should amend the regulation of the Greater Bay Area development policy, in particular the article which defines Macau residents as outsiders [people living outside China].

Cheong Meng Seng wants China to grant the SARs’ residents’ Home Return Permits in the form of mainland ID cards.

Ma Iao Lai suggested that the Central Government should coordinate all types of interests and competition among Macau, Hong Kong and Guangdong, in terms of the Greater Bay Area development, to avoid further contradictions and problems which might unwittingly be generated due to the “two systems.”

Melinda Chan expressed her hope that China can establish  facilities for Macau students in Hengqin.
