Over 200 bids received for food stalls at Tamagnini Barbosa Market tender

The acceptance of tender proposals for seven cooked food stalls at Tamagnini Barbosa Market closed on May 15, with the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) receiving a total of 222 submissions. The bureau said it will now begin evaluating proposals to select suitable operators and promote the sustainable revitalization of public markets.

The seven stalls, ranging from 11.4 to 19.8 square metres, will offer a variety of cuisines and vintage-style food concepts. Under the Public Market Management Regime, operators are chosen through open tender.

IAM said the assessment committee will review submissions based on five criteria: business strategy, operational experience, product diversity, opening hours, and payment convenience. A ranking list will be announced after evaluation is completed.

The wider revitalization plan for Tamagnini Barbosa Market is progressing in phases. The ground floor will continue to host fresh produce and daily goods, while the first floor will be transformed into a food court with 16 stalls and about 150 seats. Existing cooked food stalls will be relocated alongside newly tendered operators.

Design plans include nostalgic elements and improved connectivity to nearby facilities, including a car park and future public sports park. Construction of the first-floor food court is expected to begin in the third quarter of this year and finish by year-end, with ground-floor works targeted for completion in 2027. IAM said the project aims to create a more vibrant community hub.
