Pun not concerned with Glenn Irwin’s refusal

Glenn Irwin, last year’s winner of the Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix, has told the BBC that he does not wish to return to the Guia Circuit any time soon after an incident claimed the life of Daniel Hegarty last year.

Questioned over Irwin’s absence, organizing committee president Pun Weng Kun said, “Many racers that are interested in participating [in the event], some of them are participating for many years […] We admit that there are people [who], due to several issues, might be not interested [in participating].”

Pun said that organizers are always trying to “improve on certain parts of the circuit in order to perfect the circuit in and out of the track.”

“Last year, after the event, we had done this analysis and we had contacts with the president of the FIM [Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme] who said that the circuit is good to hold this kind of event,” he added.
