Sands China highlights sports as bridge for tourism and community

Nearly 10,000 runners from 38 countries participated in the 2026 Sands China Macao International 10K on Sunday, with Ethiopia’s Aklilu Gebremariam Asfaw and Kenya’s Fridah Ndinda Mweu crowned overall champions.

Wilfred Wong, executive vice chairman of Sands China Ltd., emphasized the event’s impact, saying, “Sands China is thrilled to host the 2026 Sands China Macao International 10K, using sports as a bridge to foster integration between tourism and other sectors […]We are delighted to see the growing influence of the event brand, underscoring the strong appeal of Macau’s sports scene.”

Launched in 2021, the Sands 10K has attracted around 50,000 runners over five editions.

10 groups were crowned winners in the Sands 10K FUNkiest Costume Award, each receiving a hotel experience package from The Parisian Macao valued at MOP3,500.

Wong affirmed that Sands China will continue partnering with the government to promote high-quality sporting events and drive tourism and economic diversification.
