Sports | Disappointing results at National Youth Games

Local teenage athletes at the National Youth Games found their progress stymied by fellow sportsmen from other Chinese cities. Part of Macau’s delegation has already returned to the territory.
The Sports Development Board (ID) revealed some of the local athletes’ results in the first edition of the nationwide games.
In taekwondo, Freeman Yiu was knocked down by Shenzhen’s Ren Ming Xiang in the men’s under-68-kilogram bout, losing 2 to 14. In swimming, Cheong Tek Kei and Leong Ka Seng were eliminated in the 50-meter freestyle preliminary, while Lin Sizhuang fell short in the 100-meter butterfly preliminary.
Fencers Leung Weng Hang, Do Rosário, Romano Máximo and Leong Cheng Wai suffered defeat at the hands of their Hong Kong counterparts in the men’s team epee. Macau’s handball team also competed with Hong Kong for seventh place after being defeated by Shanghai earlier.
