Uber has launched a new cross-border travel service linking Hong Kong and Macau, alongside the introduction of limited taxi rides in Macau through its app, expanding its footprint in one of the Pearl River Delta’s busiest travel corridors.
According to a company press release today, the new services became available today (February 3), “responding to heavy daily traffic between the two cities for work, family visits and tourism.” Cross-border travel has long been marked by multiple transfers and lengthy waits at terminals and checkpoints.
Under the new offering, riders can book point-to-point limousine trips between Hong Kong and Macau directly in the Uber app. The service operates in both directions and features upfront pricing that includes bridge and tunnel tolls, providing greater cost transparency for travelers. Trips must be booked at least 24 hours in advance, with reservations available up to 90 days ahead.
The cross-border transfers are operated by Kwoon Chung Bus Holdings, a long-established transport provider with experience in handling regulated cross-boundary services. Uber said the partnership ensures compliance with existing transport frameworks while offering a premium, private travel option, Uber said.
Limited Macau service
At the same time, Uber has introduced licensed taxi rides in Macau. Users “can now request official Macau taxis through the app,” with fares calculated according to the government-regulated taxi meter and paid for in-app.
The move removes the need for cash payments and reduces language barriers, particularly for international visitors, the statement reads.
Uber Hong Kong General Manager Estyn Chung said the new services “aim to make cross-border travel smoother while supporting Macau’s tourism ambitions and creating additional earning opportunities for drivers.”
The Uber app will support multiple languages and standard safety features, including trip tracking and emergency assistance, across both services, said the company.
