PAKISTAN A group of suicide bombers with grenades and assault rifles strikes outside a courthouse in northwestern Pakistan, killing six people in an attack claimed by a Taliban splinter group. The attack was the latest in a wave of militant assaults across the troubled country that has killed over 100 people since last week.

THAILAND’s prime minister Prayuth said the government will ensure that environmental and health impact studies for a coal power plant in Krabi province approved by its energy policy planning committee will be reconsidered, but made clear he expects the project to proceed.

INDONESIA Torrential rains in Jakarta have overwhelmed drains and flooded roads and thousands of homes. The disaster mitigation agency said that more than 50 areas are flooded in the city, with waters up to 1.5 meters high in East Jakarta.

ISRAEL A military court sentenced Sgt. Elor Azaria to 18 months in prison for his deadly shooting of a Palestinian attacker who lay wounded on the ground, capping a nearly yearlong saga that has deeply divided the country. Palestinians dismissed the sentence as a “joke.”
