79% of transactions made via NFC as Visa enables Apple Pay overseas

[Visa announced that cardholders using Visa cards issued in China can now add their cards to Apple Pay for payments at overseas merchants, in-store, in-app, and online.

The move comes as contactless payments continue to grow, with 79% of in-person transactions globally now made via NFC.

Yin Xiaolong, general manager of Visa Mainland China, said the partnership with Apple provides cardholders with “a secure and seamless payment experience wherever they are.”

He added that Visa is increasing investments in data security and tokenization, enabling safer mobile payments and cross-border transactions.

Apple Pay allows in-store payments via iPhone or Apple Watch using Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode authentication, and online or in-app payments without entering card details repeatedly. Cardholders continue to enjoy the same rewards and benefits as their physical cards, along with additional incentives for first-time users and overseas transactions.
