Animal rights group Anima Macau has nearly reached its goal of raising MOP800,000 this month. Honorary president of the group, Albano Martins, said that they have raised a total of MOP783,612.26, expressing optimism that the association will reach its goal by the end of the month.
Martins told the Times that the group now has a goal of reaching MOP800,000 per month for the next four months, “otherwise we will not survive or [will have to] enter very complicated debt.”
“I am not sure we will be capable but we are working very hard to reach this goal,” he added.
Early this month, Anima appealed to the public for financial support, with an urgent need to find “at least MOP4 million.”
Martins revealed that the budged for 2021 was approved to around MOP10.7 million.
However, Anima has only received MOP4.5 million from Macau Foundation and MOP500,000 will only be provided in the beginning of next year.
He added that they had already called on the casino operators for support but this has been in vain.
In January this year, the group only received a total of MOP360,000 from the four local casino operators, a significant plunge from the MOP2 million it received each year on average, pre-pandemic.
