Authorities have issued a warning, urging the public to be alert to fraudulent messages involving fake electricity payment reminders.
According to the Anti-Fraud Coordination Center, an SMS circulating among residents falsely claims that an electricity bill is overdue and that service will be suspended if payment is not made before a certain date, and directs users to a suspicious link.
Authorities stressed that the link, “https://cem-gsr.cfd/mo,” is highly suspicious, noting that the “.cfd” domain is commonly associated with phishing scams.
They added that legitimate utility companies in Macau do not typically use such domains for billing or payment collection purposes.
Officials reminded the public not to click on unknown links or enter personal or banking details through unverified websites.
The Anti-Fraud Coordination Center said it will continue to monitor similar scam attempts and urged the public to remain vigilant, particularly when messages create urgency or threaten service disruption.
