The State Council of China has appointed Zheng Xincong as director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR, replacing Fu Ziying.
Zheng, 63, was one of the national security technical advisers of the city’s Committee for Safeguarding National Security, which was established in the first quarter of this year.
Zheng is a former deputy governor of Fujian province.
With the announcement, Zheng will also replace Fu as the national security affairs adviser of the Committee for Safeguarding National Security.
Fu was also removed from the post as deputy head of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council.
In a statement, Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng welcomed the new director and thanked that Liaison Office for its “long-term concern and support [for] the Macau SAR.”
“The Chief Executive is convinced that […] director Zheng Xincong will lead the Liaison Office to maintain close contact with the SAR government and all sectors of society, and continue to support the SAR government in its comprehensive, accurate and unswerving implementation of the ‘One country, two systems’ policy, and safeguarding the constitution,” the statement read.
Ho also thanked Fu for serving as the director of the Liaison Office for more than three years, and for supporting the SAR to “govern in accordance with the law, firmly safeguard[ing] national sovereignty, security and development interests, [and] vigorously promot[ing] the core values of loving [both] the country and Macau.” LV
