Border Gate crossings to surge up to 3.5 million

Government authorities have announced plans to manage the expected surge in border crossings during the upcoming May Golden Week holiday.
Between 3.4 and 3.5 million people are anticipated to pass through the Gongbei Border Gate, with daily crossings ranging from 680,000 to 700,000.
The peak of cross-border traffic is expected on May 3. To accommodate the increased flow, additional inspection channels will be opened during busy periods, and crowd control measures will be implemented if needed. Extra patrols will be deployed in popular tourist areas and other high-traffic zones.
Authorities noted that traffic at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge is expected to rise. In response, the police and customs have coordinated efforts to increase vehicle lanes and deploy additional personnel during peak times.
The upcoming May Day holiday in China is expected to see a boom in both domestic and outbound tourism, with strong performance anticipated.
This optimism follows solid tourism consumption figures from the first quarter.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism reported that domestic tourist visits reached 1.8 billion in the first three months, a 26.4% year-on-year increase, generating 1.8 trillion yuan in tourism-related consumption, up 18.6%.
The May Day holiday, a five-day break starting Thursday, marks China’s last long holiday in the first half of the year. Travel agencies expect this year’s domestic tourism to outperform previous years.
