Brazil | Companies from China to operate in the energy sector of Rio Grande do Sul

Brazilian company Electrosul and Chinese companies Shanghai Electric and Zhejiang Energy on Monday in Porto Alegre set up a company that will build and operate the power transmission lines in the Brazilian State of Rio Grande do Sul.

Shanghai Electric owns 44 percent of the capital of the new company called SZE Transmissora de Energia Elétrica S.A. while Zhejiang Energy will hold 28.5 percent and Eletrosul 27.5 percent according to the Folha de São Paulo newspaper.

The transmission facilities to be built in the State of Rio Grande do Sul include lines and substations intended to channel the production of future wind farms in the region. SZE Transmissora de Energia Elétrica SA is expected to build around 2,000 kilometres of power transmission lines in the Brazilian state.

The work, which must be completed by 2020, will increase the power distribution capacity of the State of Rio Grande do Sul by 4,800 megawatts.

The lines will pass through 59 municipalities and will benefit regions such as Campanha, Centro-Oeste, Zona Sul and the Metropolitan Region and are expected to create 11,000 jobs.

This is an investment estimated at 4 billion reais and will supply wind power to 1.2 million people.  MDT/Macauhub
