A statistics release from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) showed that there were 727 more companies in Macau at the end of the first quarter of this year (Q1) compared to the same period in 2024.

According to official data, a total of 913 new companies were incorporated during this period, while 186 companies were dissolved, resulting in a net increase of 727.

The majority of the new companies were operating in Wholesale & Retail Trade (302) and Business Services (279).

The total value of registered capital for the new companies also increased, albeit slightly, by 1.4% year-over-year to MOP205 million.

Regarding the origin of capital, mainland China was responsible for 60.4% of the new incorporations, with a contribution of MOP124 million. Local capital came in second with MOP72 million (35.2%). The DSEC also noted that MOP75 million of the capital from the mainland was related to contributions from cities in the Greater Bay Area, with Shenzhen accounting for 68%.

The capital from the neighboring region of Hong Kong stood at MOP7 million.

In terms of registered capital size, 640 new companies (70.1% of the total) were registered with capital under MOP50,000, while 12 new companies were registered with capital of MOP 1 million or more. RM
