The suspect was arrested yesterday at the Macau Ferry Terminal

A Hong Kong university student was arrested by the Judiciary Police (PJ) yesterday afternoon at the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal, following his attempt to smuggle cocaine from the Philippines through the territory into the neighboring special administrative region.
According to the PJ authorities, who received an early tip-off from an anonymous source, the 20-year-old suspect took a flight to Manila last Friday through Macau and arrived in the city with 1kg of cocaine, at a market value of HKD 3 million, stashed inside his sneakers. He was finally intercepted at the pier by the investigators, who had tailed him since his arrival at the airport at 3:30 pm.
Their initial investigation suggested that it was the second time that the student had committed the crime. The suspect had been approached by a drug ring through his friend, and was offered HKD 10,000 as remuneration for each gig.
The PJ is currently investigating whether Hong Kong was the smuggler’s final destination. Staff reporter
