CRIME | Illegal migrant commits burglary in three separate Taipa eateries

The Public Security Police Force caught a mainland Chinese man yesterday morning red-handed after he was captured on a surveillance camera attempting to steal goods from a Taipa restaurant.
The 37-year-old suspect, who claimed to be a chef, has also been linked to two separate aggravated thefts that occurred in September, said the security force’s representative in a media debriefing yesterday afternoon.
Around 6 a.m. the owner of the restaurant called the police after the anti-burglary application on his mobile phone notified him of the suspect’s trespass. Meanwhile, the burglar was also spotted searching for valuable items on the premises through the software.
The suspect is reported to have arrived in the territory illegally by swimming last Saturday. After losing all of his money gambling, he conceived the idea of burglary while wandering along the street where the restaurant is situated.
He slid into the restaurant after prying open the gate on the side with a steel bar. The suspect was seen holding six bottles of wine and several pataca notes worth around MOP10,800 when the owner and police officers arrived at the scene. The safe inside the eatery was also found damaged, yet the possessions inside remained intact.
The suspect had also managed to make away with about MOP14,200 and MOP4,400 separately from two restaurants also in Taipa after sneaking into one of them through a window.
On an unrelated note, the police also announced yesterday that what started as a minor spat between two meat vendors in the Red Market on Sunday night ended with one of them being stabbed in the abdomen. It was said that an abrupt noise that frightened one of the pair was the source of the squabble, which escalated into a physical scuffle.
One vendor reportedly threw raw pork at the other after he appeared unapologetic. During the argument, both also exchanged provocative physical contact and one vendor who was wielding a cleaver accidentally stabbed the other in his stomach. The police were called to the scene by bystanders and the injured vendor was subsequently rushed to the public hospital. AU
