The government has launched the “Dementia-Friendly Citizens” pilot program, with an initial cohort of 14 professionals having completed ambassador training.
This initiative forms part of the government’s broader strategy to implement the “Healthy Macau Blueprint” and aligns with the newly announced “10-Year Action Plan for Elderly Services 2026–2035,” reinforcing the healthy community program’s objectives to create a supportive environment for residents living with dementia.
Participants included healthcare professionals and caregivers from the Salvation Army’s Rui Xi Integrated Elderly Service Centre, Longevity Home Care and Support Service, and Nursing Home Sol Nascente of Areia Preta, along with academic staff from the City University of Macau’s School of Health and Macau Kiang Wu Nursing College.
The training curriculum covered essential medical knowledge about dementia, including early symptom recognition and communication strategies, while detailing the ambassador program’s structure and its community implementation framework. Ricaela Diputado
