Lionel Leong | ‘This is like a body check up report’

During the Q&A session, speakers were asked to name the gaming operator who best complied with the guidelines. Davis Fong noted that the report includes “a lot of information.” “How can we interpret it? I think the whole community can discuss this,” he said.
The Secretary for Economy and Finance, Lionel Leong, complemented: “In different sectors, different companies have different indicators. This is like a body check up report. […] It is a review report in order to know where we are.”
The gaming concessions and sub-concessions began in 2002 and are set to expire in March 2020 for SJM Holdings Ltd and MGM China Holdings Ltd, and in June 2022 for the remaining four: Sands China Ltd., Wynn Macau Ltd., Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd. and Melco Crown.
Asked about the timetable for the preparatory work of concession renewal, Lionel Leong stressed that the government intends to “keep an eye on the global development of the gaming industry” in order to “guarantee the healthy development of the local gaming industry,” an idea that he repeated several times throughout the press conference.
