Macau places well in competitiveness ranking

The “Innovation Project of City Competitiveness Report: China Transformation Lever and Upgrade (No.15)” ranked Macau in fourth place in terms of livable cities in China. The report is the latest of those conducted by the China Academy of Social Sciences’ Financial Strategy Research Institute. Besides being ranked among the top ten livable cities in China, Macau has also been ranked seventh and eighth in terms of comprehensive economic competitiveness and sustainability competitiveness respectively.

The other SAR, Hong Kong, ranked second in comprehensive economic competitiveness and first in both livable competitiveness and sustainability competitiveness. Shenzhen was listed the most competitive city in comprehensive economic competitiveness.

The seven remaining cities filling in the top ten competitive cities in economy were Shanghai, Taipei, Guangzhou, Tianjin, Beijing, Suzhou and Wuhan.

Aside from Hong Kong and Macau, the cities of Wuxi, Guangzhou, Xiamen, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Nantong, Nanjing and Shanghai were classified as top livable cities.

Regarding sustainability, Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Qingdao, and Dalian were the other eight cities among the top ten.

The report studied the economic competitiveness of 294 cities across both mainland China and Taiwan, and studied 289 cities in terms of their sustainability and livability, also in China and Taiwan.

The report emphasized the question: how can cities use the lever effect of house prices in China’s transformation?
