Macau supermarket creates temporary check-out priority lane

The supermarket chain San Miu announced the creation of priority lanes in 24 of their supermarkets, as of April 1, aiming to facilitate the lives of customers aged 65 and above, pregnant women and those with disabilities.
Although priority check-out lanes are common around the globe, this is the first time they have been implemented in Macau. San Miu said that the priority lanes were introduced due to the significant increase in demand for food and daily necessities and the need to ensure that those most in need are able to do their shopping safely, the company said in a statement.
The company also noted that the priority given to special groups will only be enforced up to 9 a.m., after which time the supermarkets would continue to operate as normal.
San Miu also said that their staff will provide special assistance to priority customers, such as “retrieving products from the higher shelves or carrying any heavier products to the check-out counters.”
The program will be running on trial until the end of April, with the possibility of being extended if necessary.
