Macau Tower hosts 12th Oxfam TowerRun supporting left-behind children

Macau Tower will host the 12th Oxfam TowerRun on October 19, themed “Every Mind Counts. Every Step Transforms Lives.”
This year’s National Games are co-hosted by Macau, Hong Kong, and Guangdong for the first time.
Funds raised from the event will support Oxfam’s poverty alleviation and development projects, including educational support and well-being for left-behind children in Mainland China.
Runners from Macau and around the world will participate in this year’s charity event.
Registration is now open and will close on September 26.
Oxfam announced that 2024 World Champion Soh Wai Ching and Macau trail runner Vivi Cheung will continue as event ambassadors for the 2025 Oxfam TowerRun.
Last year, Soh participated in the competition, breaking the record with a time of 6 minutes 33 seconds and winning the championship in the global men’s elite group.
Speaking on the sidelines, Soh shared how beneficial this event has been for families struggling with work-life balance: “For me, it’s two-in-one and linked to my life as well because I have three siblings. I’m the youngest of four, so I know how hard it is.”
He hopes participants in Macau will gain a new perspective on tower running: “Many people think it will hurt their knees, which is a misunderstanding. As a sports scientist, I understand and analyze the sport. You burn twice the calories compared to running.”
Henry Tang, acting director general of Oxfam Hong Kong, mentioned, “We are focusing not just on the sports event but also on its charity aspect. That’s why we emphasize this dual purpose when recruiting participants.”
He added, “We hope to raise funds for migrant students and children in rural areas of China.”
Henry noted, “We raised about half a million dollars from just one event, and this year we aim to do even better, especially with the upcoming National Games.”
