A Sierra Leonean man was intercepted at the local airport for allegedly smuggling cocaine hidden inside his body, the Judiciary Police (PJ) reported.
Authorities recovered 56 capsules totaling 941 grams including packaging, with an estimated black market value of MOP1.8 million. The case has been handed over to the Public Prosecutions Office for investigation.
Police intelligence indicated that the man, arriving from Thailand on Sunday (Aug. 17), was suspected of drug trafficking. Upon entry, an X-ray scan detected foreign objects inside his body, prompting medical observation at the public hospital.
Over the course of three days, from Sunday to Tuesday (Aug. 17–19), the suspect expelled 56 capsules, which were confirmed by laboratory tests to contain cocaine.
Investigations revealed that the suspect had been recruited by a drug trafficking group in his home country.
“First, he received a payment of USD1,000 and ingested the drugs in his home country. He then smuggled the cocaine internally, flying to Thailand and connecting from there to Macau,” said the PJ spokesperson.
“The drug trafficking group had already reserved a hotel room in the central district of Macau for him, where he was to expel the drugs. Afterward, the cocaine would be transported to nearby regions, and upon successful delivery, he would receive an additional USD3,000 as payment,” the spokesperson added.
Authorities also seized USD840 linked to the trafficking operation.
