“Sands China strictly adheres to Macau SAR government policies and guidelines, and has been taking care of the daily commutes of its cross-border construction workers since September 2014. In line with the government’s request, it has been shuttling the workers from Gongbei Border Gate to construction sites in Cotai – with a total of 90 trips offered per day – as part of its social responsibility efforts,” the company stated in a press release.
The complimentary shuttles will collect the workers at Zhuhai Railway Station during peak hours and transport them to construction sites in Cotai via the Lotus Bridge.
Sands stated in a press release that, “besides the convenience it will provide for the workers, the shuttle service has the added benefit of easing the pressure on public transportation and traffic within Macau by not allowing the workers to take public transport and having them use company shuttles for their Lotus-Cotai route.
In addition to providing transportation for construction workers, the gaming operator stressed that it currently operates team member shuttles running 16 different routes throughout the city. Those shuttles are reportedly in operation 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with pickups as frequent as every 5 minutes during peak hours.
Following a government request, the Transport Bureau (DSAT) announced earlier that three gaming operators were already providing shuttle buses for non-resident construction workers in order to relieve the pressure on the public bus services.
