SJM to directly operate Casino L’Arc Macau

SJM Resorts, S.A. has secured Macao SAR Government approval to directly manage Casino L’Arc Macau starting at 2 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 30. The move coincides with Macau’s three-year transition period, which ends at the year’s close.

Previously, SJM considered buying two of its satellite properties: L’Arc and Ponte 16. Ultimately, it pursued only L’Arc. The Ponte 16 casino closed on Nov. 28.

Casino L’Arc becomes the only satellite casino to shift to a self-operated model; all others have closed. The L’Arc site is located in the Macau Peninsula’s entertainment and hospitality cluster.

SJM announced the approvals after acquiring the entire issued share capital of Arc of Triumph Development Company Limited, the property’s parent. The company completed the purchase on Dec. 17.

DICJ nod and timeline

According to a recent filing, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) has approved SJM Resorts’ request to end satellite operations at Casino L’Arc Macau at 1:59 a.m. on Dec. 30 and operate it directly from 2 a.m. that day.

The approval follows a Dec. 12 decision signed by Secretary for Transport and Public Works Raymond Tam, authorizing the transfer of L’Arc’s hotel and casino units to SJM and its subsidiary. Independent shareholders of SJM Holdings Ltd. approved the HK$1.75 billion ($224 million) transaction at an extraordinary general meeting on Dec. 15.

Spanning 86,438 square meters, L’Arc includes hotel rooms, food and beverage outlets, retail space, and casino premises.
