The fuel station on Taipa’s Avenida Dr. Sun Yat Sen may give way to the construction of a building tower of up to 90 meters in height.
This year’s seventh meeting of the Urban Planning Committee (CPU) yesterday acknowledged the change as it approved the Urban Conditions Plan (PCU) for the land’s development.
At the meeting and after some discussion, Leong Io Hong, head of the Department of Urban Planning of the Land and Urban Construction Bureau (DSSCU) said that while the purpose of the project is not yet completely settled, the land might soon hold a new hotel unit, noting that a residential building is another possibility.
The land, with 1,008 square meters, is privately owned and the CPU also considers a significant parcel will become part of the public domain in consequence of the reform of the land plot in the area.
According to the DSSCU conditions, the building should be about 30 stories high.
Responding to CPU members’ questions about the fuel station’s future, Leong said it will be evaluated if there is a need to relocate the facility to another location or if it will simply be closed.
He also said the government’s authorization for the construction of the fuel station was conditional and intended as a temporary use for the land plot, which is the reason why there is no impediment to the process on this aspect.
“The owners need to decide [on their own] if the fuel station needs or not to be relocated,” Leong said, adding that DSSCU hopes that “by granting all these options in terms of land use [including, residential, commercial, tourism and entertainment] this land plot can be developed as soon as possible.”
“There is a possibility of it being used for the construction of a hotel. If so, we will issue some specific guidelines regarding the number of parking spaces that the project needs to possess,” the same official said, hinting at some urgency in developing this land parcel.
The reformation and development of the land plot should give way to the creation of a new street that would link with the Rua do Porto.
