Together with the Community, Together with Love

Sands China regards Macao as its home and has always been committed to giving back to the local community. Over the years, the company has been deeply engaged in volunteer work, walking side by side with local social service organisations and joining hands with all sectors of society to spread love and promote inclusiveness. This reflects Sands China’s long-term commitment to fulfilling corporate social responsibility and serving the community.

16 years of volunteerism bringing warmth to Macao

Sands Cares Ambassadors and residents had fun and supported an important cause at the 56th Caritas Macau Charity Bazaar game booth.

Back in 2009, Sands China pioneered the first volunteer team in Macao’s integrated tourism and leisure industry with the launch of the Sands Cares Ambassador programme, an initiative of the Sands Cares global corporate citizenship programme of Sands China’s parent company. What began with just 200 members has blossomed into a team of more than 3,600 volunteers, who together have contributed over 360,000 community service hours.

Sands China’s team members and community groups assembled food kits together, providing food assistance to local populations in need.

From supporting disadvantaged groups to extending services into neighbouring Greater Bay Area, the Sands Cares Ambassadors have shown how small acts of kindness can gather into a powerful force, continuously bringing warmth and positive energy to the community.

Grant Chum, chief executive officer and executive director of Sands China Ltd.

Leading with heart, serving with purpose

Grant Chum, chief executive officer and executive director of Sands China Ltd., said: “Community service has always been central to Sands China’s corporate social responsibility. Over the years, we have organised diverse initiatives to meet social needs and encouraged our team members to dedicate themselves to volunteer work. Our passion and commitment remain unwavering. We are proud to have pioneered Macao’s first volunteer team established by an integrated tourism and leisure enterprise, enabling our Sands Cares Ambassadors to devote themselves to community service, and even prouder to see them dedicate themselves selflessly to bringing positive energy to society. In addition, we actively promote participation in community activities through cultural, tourism and sports projects, advancing diversified development in Macao while ensuring that the warmth of mutual care flows into every corner of the community. We firmly believe that with the joint efforts of Sands China and all sectors of society, Macao will become an even warmer and more inclusive community.”

Sports as a universal language of care

Sports transcend borders and cultures. This October, The NBA China Games made its Macao debut. During the event, Sands Cares and NBA Cares jointly launched a five-day community impact week, engaging more than 2,200 community members, including Sands Cares Ambassadors.

NBA Legends and current WNBA players participated in the five-day community impact week events, co-organised by NBA Cares and Sands Cares Oct. 8-12, in celebration of Macao hosting the highly anticipated NBA China Games 2025.

NBA Legends and current players visited local communities, sharing skills with students, rural coaches and students from Guizhou and Inner Mongolia, distributing boxed lunches to residents in need, and connecting with social service organisation members. The initiative received enthusiastic responses, fully demonstrating the powerful synergy of sports and philanthropy and injecting strong energy into the local community.

Athletes from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao participated in the 2025 MSO Sands China Cup – Greater Bay Area Badminton Invitational Aug. 9 at the Macao East Asian Games Dome.

In anticipation of the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympic Games, Sands China and the Macau Special Olympics (MSO) co-organised the 2025 MSO Sands China Cup – Greater Bay Area Badminton Invitational in August. Athletes from Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao participated, marking the first wave of excitement for the Games. The event attracted over 200 athletes and was supported by 60 volunteers from the Sands Cares Ambassadors, the MSO Ambassador programme, the Scout Association of Macau and Macau Baptist College. This inclusive sporting event not only highlighted the unifying power of sports but also provided a cross-regional platform for technical exchange among athletes. For this initiative, we have sponsored the athletes’ training gears, uniforms and the cost of their training – ensuring they are fully equipped to compete and represent Macao at the National Games. A group of Sands China’s badminton players and Sands Cares Ambassadors also participated in the training camp, practicing alongside the MSO athletes and embracing inclusivity in sports.

 Extending care through emergency preparedness

Sands Cares Ambassadors helped assemble emergency response kits at Macau Red Cross headquarters June 4 and assisted with a disaster preparation workshop conducted by Macau Red Cross June 16 at a local primary school.

To help the public improve emergency preparedness and awareness, Sands China has partnered with Macau Red Cross since 2019 to organise disaster prevention community initiatives and emergency kit projects for seven consecutive years. To date, 7,400 households have benefited.

In its second year of entering local schools, the programme held civil defence workshops for primary students and distributed emergency kits to schools located in low-lying areas vulnerable to storm surges. These efforts aim to raise students’ disaster awareness and strengthen their ability to respond to emergencies.

Sands China dispatched staff to Rua das Estalagens, part of the company’s community revitalisation programme, to check on affected merchants following Super Typhoon Ragasa in September.

Sands China helps subsidize economically disadvantaged seniors’ access to the Peng On Tung Tele-Assistance program and funds extended care initiatives such as home repairs and haircut services.

Following Super Typhoon Ragasa in September, Sands Cares Ambassadors reached out to social service organisations to assess their needs. Upon learning that Bosco Youth Service Network needed assistance, they immediately provided support for recovery. Sands China also dispatched staff to Rua das Estalagens, part of Sands China’s community revitalisation programme, to check on affected merchants. In addition, the company distributed cleaning tool kits to nearby shops and residents and assisted with debris removal, helping the community swiftly return to normal. In addition, Sands China promptly mobilised Sands Cares Ambassadors, along with employees from the company’s engineering department, to visit the elderly beneficiaries of Peng On Tung services in Macao, providing home repair services after the typhoon to help eliminate safety hazards.
