AFGHANISTAN Taliban insurgents killed 26 Afghan civilians after abducting them in the remote central province of Ghor the previous day, officials said, the latest brutal attack targeting the local population in one of the country’s most lawless areas.

PAKISTAN’s city of Quetta shut down following a militant rampage at a police academy the day before as the victims’ families buried 60 police cadets and an army officer killed in the attack — one of the deadliest targeting Pakistani security forces in recent years.

REFUGEES The U.N. refugee agency says the death toll for migrants in the Mediterranean has reached at least 3,800 this year so far. The Geneva-based agency said on Twitter than this makes 2016 the deadliest year ever for migrants in the Mediterranean.
Turkey Explosion
TURKEY’s state-run news agency says police have detained seven suspected Islamic State group militants in a raid in an apartment in Seyhan town. All were foreign nationals, but the agency did not identify which countries they were from.
Germany China Aixtron
GERMANY The government says it withdrew permission for a Chinese company to purchase semiconductor equipment company Aixtron due to security concerns. Germany announced that it was reconsidering the takeover bid by Fujian Grand Chip, which had bid 670m euros for Aixtron.
