INDIA Supporters of a lawmaker slain by Maoist insurgents in southern India yesterday attacked two police stations in anger over the killing, setting fire to one and vandalizing the other, police said.

JAPAN An unmanned Japanese space capsule is headed to the International Space Station filled with cargo including food, experiments and new batteries. The craft was launched yesterday at 2:52 a.m. from the Tanegashima Space Center in southern Japan. It will take 4 ½ days to reach the space station.

MALDIVES A raid on the opposition’s main campaign office and the specter of U.S. sanctions on government officials were not deterring thousands of people from heading to the polls to vote in the Maldives’ presidential election, widely seen as a referendum on the island nation’s young democracy. 

PAKISTAN An official said gunmen have attacked the base camp of a pro-government militia, killing four of its members. The attack occurred yesterday in the Dasht-e-Goran area of Baluchistan. The southwestern province is home to a low-level separatist movement and Islamic extremist groups.

IRAN On the same day Arab separatists killed at least 25 people in an attack targeting a military parade in southwestern Iran, President Donald Trump’s lawyer mounted a stage in New York to declare that the government would be toppled. 

SWITZERLAND Swiss voters roundly rejected two proposals aimed at protecting Swiss farmers and ensuring that food from both domestic and foreign producers is healthier, more environmentally sound and animal-friendly.

KENYA Burials have started of those who died when a ferry capsized on Lake Victoria as the death toll rose to 224. Prime Minister Kasssim Majaliwa is leading mourners at the funeral service. On Saturday rescuers found a survivor two days after the tragedy.
