Youth internship programme in Hengqin opens doors to Portuguese, Spanish markets

A new internship programme launched by the government is offering local youth a direct pathway to career opportunities linked to the city’s role as a bridge between China and Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking markets.
The “Macao Youth China, Portuguese and Spanish-speaking Enterprises Special Internship Programme” will place 15 eligible young residents in 12-week practical training positions at enterprises within the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, with applications open until June 30 via the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) website.
The programme is jointly organized by DSAL and the Civil Affairs Bureau of the Cooperation Zone, and is undertaken by the Service Centre for Economy and Trade between China and Portuguese/Spanish-speaking Countries (CECPS).
Internship roles span business operations, human resources, finance, and legal affairs, helping participants develop language proficiency and professional competencies through hands-on experience.
The programme leverages Macau’s ties with Portuguese-speaking countries while also extending to Spanish-speaking markets, positioning Macau within the Greater Bay Area.
Applicants must be aged 35 or below, hold a valid Macau resident identity card and a mainland travel permit, and possess a bachelor’s degree or above. The programme is also open to final-year students graduating in 2026.
During the programme, DSAL will provide a living allowance of MOP5,000 every four weeks, a one-time MOP500 transport allowance, as well as insurance, accommodation, and lunch subsidies.
