Sam Hou Fai and John Lee meet to drive mutual benefits across GBA

Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai met with Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu on Tuesday at the Government Headquarters to enhance cooperation and collaboration in the economy, infrastructure, tourism, and culture.

Both officials highlighted the vast potential for joint efforts, emphasizing the need for better policy coordination to jointly advance the development of the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macau Greater Bay Area.

During the one-day visit, a central theme discussed was the Guangdong–Macau In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, described by Sam as “pivotal” for Macau’s economic diversification.

Sam shared that the Macau government has formed a leading group dedicated to supporting the zone’s development through policy, legal, and resource measures.

The Macau CE also invited Hong Kong businesses to participate actively in the zone’s second-phase development, which began this year, promising shared dividends of high-quality growth, according to the Government Information Bureau (GCS).

The leaders also discussed tourism cooperation, with Sam advocating for enhanced transport links and multi-destination travel packages to attract international visitors.

Both CEs committed to joint marketing campaigns to raise the Greater Bay Area’s global profile, capitalizing on their complementary tourism strengths.

Looking ahead, the two SARs are preparing for the 15th National Games and its related events. Sam expressed enthusiasm that these events will highlight regional unity and catalyze more opportunities for the sports and tourism sectors.

Lee’s delegation toured key infrastructure in Hengqin before returning to Hong Kong. NS
