The five chefs

The five chefs

The gastronomic event “World of Flavors” has been taking place at Macau Tower’s Tromba Rija Restaurant from October 16 and will continue until the 22. It gathers five chefs from Cape Verde, Goa, Daman and Diu, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and Macau, and these culinary masters are presenting their delicacies to the public in a special buffet held side by side with the traditional Portuguese dishes featured by this restaurant. This has given local residents and tourists the opportunity to experience the different tastes of the Lusophone world.
This is one of the events run as part of the 7th Cultural Week of China and the Portuguese-Speaking Countries. The initiative was organized by the Permanent Secretariat for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-Speaking Countries of the Macao SAR, and seeks to use Macau as a platform to promote economic, commercial and cultural cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries. This is being done through a variety of activities that include gastronomy, a fair for crafts sourced from China and Portuguese-speaking countries, a theatre showcase, a music and dance show including acts from China and various Portuguese-speaking countries, and contemporary art exhibitions.
In the gastronomic event, chefs have been preparing a different daily set of dishes that has been gathering very positive feedback from the diners. These dishes include the famous “Caldo de Mancarra”, the “Oyster Soup”, and the “Cabaceira Mousse” from Guinea-Bissau. Macau is represented by the “Min Chi”, “Pork Bafassa” and the “Tacho”, all dishes that hold different inspirations and represent several aspects of Macau’s culture and traditions. Mozambique dishes include “Beef Curry with Peanut”, “Matapa” and the “Shrimp Curry”, which promises not to leave any foodie indifferent by making good use of peanuts and fresh coconut milk, two essentials for Mozambique’s cuisine. The chef from Cape Verde has no doubts in saying that his “Cachupa” is a must-have, but the same can be said for many other delights from Cape Verde. From Goa, Daman and Diu come the rich flavors and colors of “Indian-inspired cuisine with a twist”, as explained Chef Ian de Souza, with many dishes on offer varying from starters to desserts.
In addition, a set of activities to promote trade and investment will be held this month: the China and Portuguese-Speaking Countries’ Young Entrepreneurs Forum; a roundtable gathering with provincial and municipal officials from China and Portuguese-speaking countries; participation in the 20th MIF; participation in the 5th Summit for Trade and Industrial Development of Jiangsu Province, Macao and Portuguese-Speaking Countries; and an introductory session to business and investment opportunities in the field of fishery in Portuguese-speaking countries.
By organizing and participating in these activities, the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao aims to promote the guiding principles of the “The Belt and Road Initiative”, strengthening Macau’s role as a platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries and creating new trade and business opportunities.
